Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is the use of FDA-approved medications, in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, to provide a “whole-patient” approach to the treatment of substance use disorders.

In this context, MAT is the treatment of drug or alcohol dependence with medication to achieve one of three ends: detoxification, relapse prevention or opioid maintenance. Wellpath has well-developed MAT programs in many of our partner facilities and has presented nationally on this topic.
